Forest Seed Centre and the Forest Genetic Resources

A leading institution that serves the forest seed supply in Bolivia is the Forest Seed Centre "BASFOR / ESFOR, after long experience, knows the qualities that are required seed as a biological unit, in order to meet with certification requirements and objectives of forest plantations. So, the state empowers the responsibility of management and conservation of forest genetic resources of Bolivia, recognition rewards the effort made by the BASFOR.

The Center to be part of the Escuela Forestal (ESFOR), ensuring continuity in the work concerning the management of forest germplasm, from collection to use for this purpose carries out various activities such as: research, production, conservation, training, dissemination and demand attention to the genetic material. These activities are executed with the support of the Universidad Mayor de San Simón (UMSS), the Swiss Agency for Development (SDC) and Cooperation with INTERCOOPERATION, so it is intended to increase awareness, appreciation and get benefits that the flange forest genetic resources.

Mission

► Offer to producers of the highland forest, valley and tropical forest seeds, forest and ornamental plants, training and consulting services in the production of quality seedlings with competitive prices.

► Reaching out to teachers and students of the ESFOR in the areas of training, professionalism and research. The Forest Seed Centre aims to contribute to the development of forestry in the Andean region, without ruling out the possibilities in other ecosystems, using Guaranteed forest genetic material, contributing directly to increased forest production in order to improve the environmental and socioeconomic conditions of families and communities. The overall objective of Forest Seed Centre is provided by the business unit of production and services of a sustainable supply of forest genetic material, as required in sufficient quantities to meet domestic demand in order to achieve improvement in the forestry sector and the environment.
